In the ever-expanding world of the Internet of Things (IoT), connectivity is key. STMicroelectronics understands this well and has unveiled secure STM32 software for AWS IoT Core connectivity in edge devices. Their new software, part of the STM32Cube development tools, makes this process seamless and secure, paving the way for the next generation of IoT edge devices.
STMicroelectronics has released the X-CUBE-AWS-H5 expansion package, tailored for high-performance microcontrollers of the STM32H5 series. These microcontrollers serve as end devices and are ready to handle complex applications within tight energy constraints. The solution builds upon the FreeRTOS open-source real-time operating system and ST’s Secure Manager embedded security software.
A key component enabling this secure connection is the recently unveiled STM32H5 Discovery kit. It allows developers to connect their STM32H5-based prototypes to AWS IoT Core with ease and confidence.
The STM32H5 series stands out as one of the most powerful Arm Cortex-M33 MCU series. These devices come with their own immutable identity programmed at the ST factory. This feature, combined with ST’s Secure Manager, simplifies the process of registering smart devices with the AWS cloud. It eliminates the need for costly infrastructure to safeguard the identities of IoT objects during production.
Moreover, the Secure Manager’s isolation properties provide the foundation for multitenant IP protection. This ensures the protection of intellectual property for multiple owners and is part of a comprehensive set of services that maintain confidentiality and integrity throughout development, manufacturing, and in-field use.
For edge AI use cases, where models run on edge devices and require secure updates via the cloud, the STM32Trust TEE Secure Manager offers robust security solutions. The STM32Cube ecosystem, paired with STM32H5 microcontrollers, delivers a powerful and secure platform for IoT application development, aligning with future regulations and standards. The STM32H5, introduced in March 2023, takes security to a new level, targeting PSA Certified level 3 and SESIP3 certifications. With this advancement, STMicroelectronics is well-positioned to drive the IoT industry forward.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the world of IoT and secure cloud connectivity!
