Hello, I have 1 year of experience in Embedded Firmware Development. Now I’m willing to learn PCB Designing. I would appreciate it if someone gives me the roadmap to learn PCB Designing efficiently.
Thanks!

How can I learn PCB Designing from scratch?

Hey follow these steps-
1.Clear your fundamentals
I would suggest start with learning about electronics in deep basics once you have proper understanding start building stuff.
Have your basics EXTERMLY clear.
Use spice softwares to simulate circuits.
Ex-LTspice,TINA,MultiSim,Everycircuit,Proteus
2.Choose a Platform
There are plenty of platforms…..EasyEDA is online tool you can look into that or KiCAD it’s most popular open-source software and it have an amazing community.
If your company or college have access to paid services then Altium and OrCAD are amazing options
master ATLEAST ONE SOFTWARE.
3.Learn basics about EMC/EMI learn how to use tools like VNAs, Spectrum Analysers and Oscilloscope.
Learn about advance terms used in board designing and how at RF level things behave.
I would suggest focusing on learning more about circuits and how they behave at board level how different frequencies can interact with other components nearby.
In the end I have noticed new learners focus more on learning the software which is cool but it won’t pay you in long term….i have seen people with 3+ years experience in PCB designing and still designing shitty(from EMC POV) but Aesthetic PCBs .
Focus on understanding everything what’s happening in your board at frequency level.
Even a slight change in rise time can make your PCB fail every EMC tests out there.
So Focus on learning.
Follow people like Eric Bogatin,Rick Hartley Etc watch their lectures they are one of the best out there.
Happy Learning:)
Thanks for taking your time, and pointing out very clearly. I would follow your steps.
Thanks again.
Hello,
There are number of ways to learn PCB Designing.
So, First of all you need to have fundamentals of electronics with understanding of electronics like resistors, capacitors, inductors, power sections, diodes etc with how to use it.
Then you can able to start PCB Designing through Kikad, Altium and few other software as well.
You can also look over internet with some videos regarding PCB Designing as well.
Thanks! I will brush up on my electronics understanding and dive into PCB Designing.
Start with KiCad, it’s free software, You also get tutorial on YouTube. Then move to Altium Designer or cadence
Thanks. I will go through it.
